Eigeroy Lighthouse

Norway - Falk Lademann

Eigeroy Lighthouse

Eigerøy1854. Active; focal plane 46 m (151 ft); three white flashes every 30 s. 33 m (108 ft) round cast iron tower with lantern and gallery, attached to a 2-story service building. 1st order Fresnel lens in use. Lighthouse painted red with one white horizontal band. Falk Lademann’s photo is at the top of this page, Wikimedia has Roar Johansen’s photo, Anke and Jens have several good photos, S. Lommatzsch has a 2008 closeup, Trabas has posted a view from the sea by Ronald Wöhrn, and Bing has asatellite view. This was Norway’s first cast iron lighthouse, and its success encouraged the building of many more on the Norwegian coastline. Automated in 1989, the lighthouse remains under the control of the Kystverket, which offers limited tours. Located on the southwestern tip of Eigerøy, about 12 km (7.5 mi) west of Egersund. Accessible by road. Site open, tower open for climbing on Sundays in July. ARLHS NOR-010; NF-0945; Admiralty B3184; NGA 1960. -The Lighthouse Directory

Kjeungskjaer Lighthouse

Kjeungskjær1880. Active; focal plane 17 m (56 ft); white, red or green light depending on direction, occulting once every 6 s. 20 m (66 ft) octagonal cylindrical stone tower with lantern and gallery, incorporating keeper’s quarters. Entire lighthouse painted red. The original Fresnel lens continues in use. Steve Cadman’s photo is at right, Claußen has a photo, Bob Richardson has a 2008photo, the Fyr-i-Fyr wiki site has a page with a Kystverket aerial photo, Bash has a 2010 photo, Marinas.com has fine aerial photos, and Google has a satellite view. This integral design is very unusual for a Norwegian lighthouse. Located on a very small skerry about 3 km (2 mi) west of Uthaug. Accessible only by boat, but there should be an excellent view from the Breidablikkveien, the coastal road extending westward from Uthaug. Site open, tower closed. ARLHS NOR-137; NF-4729; Admiralty L1560; NGA 8200. -The Lighthouse Directory
