Mount Hood from the Hood River Valley

Mount Hood

from the Hood River Valley

California poppies in Oregon’s Hood River Valley provide a contrast to the snowy peak of Mount Hood, where swarms of small earthquakes occur each year — generally 3.5 miles below the volcano’s south slope.

The Hood River Valley is a large area of fruit growers – from berries, apples, pears, peaches, plums, apricots and more.

Mount Baker

Mount Baker

Mount Baker towers above a summer meadow of lupine and bistort in Washinton’s Mount Baker Wilderness Area.  In the winter of 1998, the precipice – called “white steep mountain” by the Nooksak tribe – was covered by a world-record snowfall.

Mount Rainier

Mount Rainier

Mount Rainier, which last erupted 150 years ago, today poses a threat to inhabitants and properties in surrounding areas of Washington.  If the volcano were to erupt, the damage from the melted snow and ice containedin its twenty-six glaciers would be immeasurable.
