Victoria Hall, the jewel in the heart of Cobourg, stands a s monument to the citizenry of its home town who joined from every lever of the community to restore and preserve this “Grand Old Lady” for generations to come.  “Vic Hall” is home to the civic government offices, Art Gallery of Ontario, Grand Concert Hall, a detailed replica of the “olde Bailey Courtroom” of London, England, Town Council Chambers, James Cockburn Room (which is the original Law Office of James Cockburn, first Speaker of the House in 1867 abd a Father of Confederation), Citizens’ Forum and numerous court and other offices.  Construction of Victoria Hall began in 1856, taking four years to complete.  It was officially opened in 1860 by H.R.H. Edward, Prince of Wales.
